63. Doyle, Arthur Conan. The Great Boer War. With Maps. Complete Edition. London: Smith, Elder, & Company, 1902. 769 pages. This is the 1902 printing and is the 18th impression. It is listed as a complete edition. Arthur Conan Doyle originally completed this work in 1900, believing that the British Boer War was concluding. The war dragged on to1902 and so the author issued numerous revisions and impressions to update the history. Includes all five folding maps at the end of the book. This copy is one of the special bindings which was bound in full morocco leather for the Edinburgh Angus Club. There is a gold-tooled insignia stamped into the leather on the front cover with the symbol and motto of the Edinburgh Angus Club. The spine has a black leather label, raised bands and gold decorations in the panels. The covers have gold-lined borders at the edges. Beautiful marbled paper pastedowns and endpapers. There is some wear and rubbing to the spine edges and corners, also slight discoloration a few small scuffs to the leather. The binding is tight the pages are clean. Still a beautiful copy of this scarce fine leather binding. $400.00
